Basil Purple Ruffles Herb

Ocimum basilicum
"The Basil Purple Ruffles, `Ocimum basilicum,' is a lovely form of basil. This plant grows to about one and a half feet high with ruffled jagged leaves. Its scent and flavor are somewhat different from sweet basil, having more of a licorice and cinnamon flavor. Purple Ruffles Basil will also grow in shadier locations than sweet basil will, but will still require about three hours of full sunlight daily. They should be planted one to two weeks after the last average frost date. The basil seeds should be planted in well drained soil that has lots of organic matter. When harvesting, about one third of the branch from the top should be cut down to where a new set of leaves is beginning to grow."
