Common Chives Herb

Allium schoenoprasum

"The Common Chives, `Allium schoenoprasum,' has beautiful and edible flowers, as well as delicate, onion flavored foliage. Common Chives are at home anywhere in the garden or landscape. Not many plants are as easy to grow and maintain, or do as many things in the garden. These herbs will even come back every year. This plant will grow to twelve inches tall and have narrow, hollow leaves. This herb is very famous for its use on baked potatoes with butter and sour cream. Chives should be planted in the early spring as soon as the soil can be worked, or two months before the first fall frost. Chives prefer a rich and well drained soil."
